Editing iRecord records from iNaturalist

Submitted by Melica on

I use iNaturalist (responsibly I hope!) and so have lots of 'Research Grade' records come through to iRecord. However, these do not appear under My Species even though the my name is the same, and I cannot edit them. I've a few I'd like to alter. Is there any way of doing this, or are they stuck in limbo?

Cheers,

Karen Fry / Melica

During the automatic import from iNaturalist, there's no logged in user. This means the resulting records aren't "owned" by anyone, and will be shown with a crossed-out user icon in the Explore page. So, even though your name is given as the recorder, the records won't be linked to your iRecord account, which explains why you cannot edit them. The best you can do is open up the Record Details page and add a comment (bottom right of the page).

I think I've heard that edits made on iNat eventually get ported over to iRecord so possibly if you make your edits over there they will appear over here.

To view your sightings that have been transferred from iNaturalist you will need to use the filter tool. It is not possible to see them under Explore Your Records. The BRC are importing records from iNaturalist on a regular basis. Any changes made to a record in iNaturalist eg updating licence to CC0 or species ID will update the record in iRecord until it is verified. Once verified the observation record cannot be over ridden.
